Becoming a Freemason
Becoming a Freemason can be a pivotal moment in your life. From the time you are accepted into this Brotherhood, you will be surrounded by Brotherly love and accepted into one of the largest fraternities in the world.
Freemasonry – Attraction rather than Promotion
To be a part of this fraternity, the simple thing to do is to ask one to be one (if you know one). Or find a lodge and speak with a Brother (if you do not know a Mason). The Brothers at the lodge will be more than willing to set you on course towards a formal petition that will be reviewed in a future Lodge meeting. During this initial journey, if said petition is approved, the candidate will be contacted with further instructions.
Freemasonry is known throughout the world and has withstood the test of time. Masons have met and continue to meet in just about every city & every town. Lodges were created because Masons wanted to convey to the community the closeness of the fraternity and the willingness to share this with individuals all over the world.
Requirements to Becoming a Freemason
1. Being a man who comes of his own free will and accord.
Freemasonry is a voluntary organization comprised of individuals with a clear perspective of the fraternity.
There are no advertisements or recruiting posters. To be one, ask one.
2. Believe in a "Supreme Being"
Freemasonry does not dictate to who a person worships or how an individual prays.
Freemasonry is not a religion and includes men from all religions.
At the moment the candidate acknowledges their belief in a deity,
no extra investigation on the matter is conducted.
3. Be of a "lawful age"
Freemasons have to be old enough to make legal responsibilities.
Freemasons must be at least Twenty-one (21) years of age.
4. Be of good morals, good reputation, and be "well recommended".
Freemasons do not want to inspire membership with those whose
behavior would tarnish the reputation of the fraternity.
A well recommended individual is one whose petition is vouched for by a worthy Master Mason.
This is the only way the petition can be properly considered.
Candidates must be able to furnish two character references along with one from a current Freemason.
5. Be of "sound mind and body"
All petitioners should understand that joining this fraternity, much like any other,
a clear understanding of membership requirements and expectations before petitioning for membership

Reasons to Join Freemasonry
Brotherhood
Freemasons never travel alone, and the brothers of the craft keep a close relationship with one another. The brothers of St. James Lodge #114 are always in communication with each other whether it be through phone calls, text messages, social media, group chats, conference calls or lodge meetings.
Charity
Freemasons are one of the largest contributors to charity in the United States. We like to give back to the community as we believe in helping those around us.
Self-Improvement
Being a Freemason promotes self-improvement in many ways. While it may be through the learning of the ritual and applying it to one’s everyday life or learning the in-depth symbolism in the esoteric side of Freemasonry and teaching those around you. The goal is always to make good men better.
